Meet the Dragon Snake, the inspiration for the stunning new series: The Elyrian Chronicles!
Updated: May 28
The African bush viper is a rough-scaled, highly venomous viper. It is an arboreal (living on the tree) viper that prefers rainforests due to the fact that it gets covered by several flowering bushes.

I stumbled upon the Dragon Snake while doing research on species of snakes that give live birth. Because snakes represent the first downfall of Man, they are an extremely important source of symbology throughout The Elyrian Chronicles series. I wanted to subliminally highlight and explore the conflicts surrounding creationism, temptation, and the fall of Eve while intentionally making the snake the new symbol of Man's salvation. When I found the Dragon Snake to help me illustrate Kimber's colorful storyline and the theological undertones, it was love at first sight!
Needless to say... I'm OBSESSED with the African Bush Viper! You don't need to be a snake person (heaven knows I'm not) to appreciate the almost surreal beauty of this special animal!
In depth look:
The Dragon Snake is a particularly colorful species of venomous snakes. It's scales are keeled, meaning that a ridge runs down the scale's center, which adds to the dramatically leaf-shaped appearance of the Bush Viper's skin. There is no antivenom known and the Dragon Snake appears in colors of bright greens, blues, yellows, oranges, browns, and greys.
